Lip lift

A surgical lip lift is a minor but effective procedure that shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip – known as the philtrum length – to improve the proportions of the face.

With age, the upper lip naturally descends and becomes smaller, while the distance between the nose and the lip border increases. Restoring this change to its original state achieves a distinctly rejuvenating effect. The result is a lifted and harmonious mouth with more lip volume and fewer wrinkles.

At Sculpture by, lip lifts are performed by plastic surgeon Louise Vennegaard Mielke, who specialises in the delicate proportions of the face and offers tailored solutions with a focus on discretion and facial balance.

“I felt safe throughout the entire process, and the result was both natural and beautiful. I could not be more satisfied – definitely a recommendation from me.”

Harmonious facial balance and a more beautiful smile

Excess length in the philtrum – the distance from the nose to the red part of the upper lip – can make the face appear longer and less balanced. Ideally, this distance is around 11–13 mm for women and 13–15 mm for men. When the philtrum becomes longer with age or due to genetic predisposition, the upper lip may appear flat and the mouth closed.

In a lip lift, a small strip of skin is removed beneath the nose, and the scar is hidden in the nasal fold. The procedure lifts the upper lip and reduces the distance between the nose and the lip, resulting in a more visible red upper lip and improved facial balance – and often a more beautiful smile.

Visible fullness and a more youthful appearance

A lip lift can be performed under local anaesthesia and takes about an hour. For each patient, the specific individual lift is measured and marked, and depending on age and individual needs, a strip of skin of up to ⅓ of the philtrum length is removed. At the same time, any asymmetry in the position of the upper lip is corrected according to your facial proportions and wishes.

This treatment is suitable if you

  • Have a long philtrum that visually elongates the face vertically

  • Wish for more of the natural fullness of the upper lip to be visible without the use of fillers

  • Desire a permanent result

  • Want to improve the balance between the upper and lower lip

  • Wish for a more youthful appearance

The lip lift can be combined with other facial treatments such as a facelift or fat injections.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and lasts about 45–75 minutes. A precisely measured strip of skin is removed, after which the upper lip is lifted and sutured into an aesthetic and natural position. All details of the procedure are planned individually based on your face and unique needs.

You can expect a thin red scar, mild swelling, and some redness in the first few days. Stitches are typically removed after 5–7 days. Most people return to social and work-related activities within a week – possibly with a little makeup.
